HELP COMMUNITY CATS

Clovis Animal Services

COMMUNITY CAT PROGRAM

Clovis is home to several cat colonies that live happy, healthy lives outdoors and are an integral part of our ecosystem. These community cats are stray or feral cats that are not suitable for indoor living, either due to temperament, lack of socialization, or predisposition to outdoor living.

We partner with volunteers in our community to help keep these cats managed in our neighborhoods, ensuring they are sterilized and vaccinated. In doing so, we keep our neighborhoods healthy and keep cats who are not suitable for adoption out of our shelter.

BENEFITS OF COMMUNITY CATS

There are several benefits of having a healthy population of community cats. When our community cats are sterilized and vaccinated for rabies, they become productive members of our society. They provide a pesticide-free solution to rodent control as natural predators in our ecosystem. They also help control the spread of rabies and fleas, providing a buffer zone between our native wildlife (racoons, foxes, coyotes, etc.) and the public. But it also keeps these cats out of the shelters where they may have a harder time being adopted, especially if their temperament is more conducive to an outdoor environment.

BECOME A COMMUNITY CAT PARTNER

Our community members play a huge role in the success of our Clovis Animal Services Community Cat Program. We are always looking for volunteers to help care for our community cats in various ways, depending on their comfort level.

We need volunteers who can watch over our community cat colonies and provide feedback to Clovis Animal Services if any issues arise requiring intervention.

Volunteers also can opt in to be a primary contact for their area, where they will be listed on our website’s Community Cat Partners map. Community members can message the primary contact through our website with any questions or concerns about the cats in their designated area.

For those looking for more active opportunities to help, we can provide information on trap-neuter-return procedures and flea treatments to ensure our community cat populations are healthy and happy.

If you’re interested in getting involved, we encourage you to fill out this Community Cat Partner interest form below and a Clovis Animal Services representative will work with you one-on-one to find the best opportunity to help.
